- Bupati Bantul convened a meeting at 0900 hours with Heads of Kelurahan and Kecamatan (sub-districts) at the Residence of Bupati, which is also the POSKO of SATLAK PB Bantul.
- In the meeting, the Bupati urged each Head of Kelurahan and Kecamatan to create groups of people within the community and each of these groups will have focused task. For example, one group will be dedicated to watch over the security of the village, another group will be assigned to ensure that rice fields are getting water irrigation, other will be in charge to ensure that every affected household receives assistance, etc. This way, the affected community population would be able to gradually return to their daily activities.
- 70% of Bantul area still has no electricity. PLN (State electricity co.) promised that 90% of powerlines in Bantul will be restored by Saturday (3 June).
- The Central Government will provide the following package of assistance for each of the affected household (Indonesian Rupees):
IDR 2 million for each family member killed by the recent earthquake IDR 100,000 per person for clothing IDR 3,000 per person per day for modest side dishes; basic food (e.g., rice) is provided by DinSos (Deptt. Of Social Welfare). IDR 100,000 per household for family kits (spoon, plates, glasses, etc.) IDR 30 million for each heavily damaged house IDR 15 million for each slightly damaged house
- To be able to distribute these government packages of assistance, the Bupati has requested each Kecamatan (Sub-district) to start compiling data on the affected population through each Heads of Village and the completed data are due for submission on Saturday (3 June). UNDAC will provide required assistance to Bupati for this.
- Selected traditional shops and small kiosks have opened up. The Bupati instructed his staff to assess the market situation in Bantul. There are 29 traditional markets in this District.
- 42% of total population in Bantul are farmers, 11% are engaged in handicrafts, 9% merchants in local traditional market, and the rest are government civilian workers, laborers, etc. There are approximately 39,000 aged-productive people (registered) without jobs.
- DinKes reported that many patients will be released from the hospitals today. SILOAM will provide some tents for released patients whose houses were heavily damaged or destroyed by the quake.
- Bupati also asked reporters from the media to take notes on areas that have not been receiving assistance so that aid organizations are informed and relief items could be mobilized targeted areas.
- The Vice President visited Bantul in the afternoon and went to some of the affected sub-districts.
- A coordination meeting with SATLAK will be held today at 20:00 hours at BupatiâÂÂs residence.
